We use streamline and protx and have one account for two very different businesses. We just had to get it agreed with steamline and then protx were happy.
Just spoken to Streamline and they say that you have to have 2 separate accounts if the businesses are in 2 different categories eg: Pet Supplies & Greetings cards. Apparently this is a legal requirement set down by Visa & Mastercard not by the acquiring banks!
I've four sites using the one merchant account but I contacted them recently about changing the name that appearing on customer's bank statements and was told that Cardnet's underwriters could not agree to a name change due to expected chargebacks, confusion etc.
Also, that really I should have a separate account for each website and it was incorrect practice to have multiple sites and one merchant account but as the account was set-up by them in 2001/02 they will honour it.
"I'll have to move my account then" said I
"so what" said they
Pat has corrected me Kathy, we have one business Mole End Ltd with one bank account, selling two separate product lines, this is why we can trade with two websites on protx. It's definately legal and above board and was all setup quite recently.

This is getting more confusing by the minute. I asked Streamline if we were a limited company and had 2 websites would this be any different - they said no - if the url's are different and the products are different then have to have 2 merchant accounts - arrrggghhhh - going right off the idea of a new business now!
I think that we used the words, unless this can be resolved we cannot move to streemline and then suddenly it was ok, we had the same setup with worldpay as well.
