    BT (penalties)

We always pay our BT bills at the end of the calendar month that they arrive. Last quarter they've deemed that to be `late`, and have horsed a late payment charge on each of our accounts this quarter (phone, fax and broadband access), thats three amounts of ten quid making a thirty quid hit on the last quarter. Just be aware of this guys.

They want everyone on Direct Debit (as do a lot of firms these days), and will use all manner of dirty tricks to try and force you into doing things their way.

Our domestic power bill was followed very rapidly by a red one, then a mildly threatening 'pre-court' one, ostesibly from a debt collection agency.
We paid it at the end of the month as usual, but I guessed the heavy-hand tactics are an attempt to persuade people to go with DD.

by the way it was on the tele a few weeks ago this and there was a lot of criticism going their way...

For thirty notes its worth a phone call from Mr Grumpy at FHHQ. I'll post my findings later.

Have to admit I'm a big fan of DD.

I can't be bothered to waste time paying bills.

Worth getting BT's year end accounts and see how fast it pays its suppliers, bet it's more than 30 days

Looking into it, its not the first time we've been hit either. In one case the cheque was cleared before the `please pay by` date and they still hit us with the £10 charge, saying they take three days to process the payments after that.

ANYWAY, they're crediting each of our accounts with £10 so I guess it was worth Mr Grumpy calling them.
