How to stop aut loading

I should know how to do this but the little grey cells have died

I have loads of programs as well as windows xp all automatically downloading updates whenever they want and always when its not convenient

Without going through each and every one how can i stop them so they ask first?

Start | Settings | Control Panel | Automatic Updates

There is also Update Manager in there which has a host of loveliness
