    Fasthost - recommended?

    Hi
Just gingerly looking to move host to webfusion.

Currently have a big, busy site and am happy with my current host other than i feel i am paying through the nose.

Does anyone have experience of hosting a busy site with webfusion?

Given the choice, I'd choose webfusion over fasthosts every day for actinic hosting. There are many, if not hundreds of actinic sites on webfusion.

RuralWeb hosts alot of sites with webfusion aand rates them. Their main disadvantage is lack of SSL cert, thus if you need your own SSL you can't use them unless you swap to actinic shared SSL.

I thought they were now one and the same thing....

If not then webfusion recently got swallowed up by someone else recently or took over someoneelse.

They've always been and still are different companies as far as i know, although i guess i wouldn't be the first to find out about a merger if it had happened. Unless you are mixing it up with Pipex who own webfusion.

I could be wrong- all I've based my conclusions on is 2 community quotes

We are putting new sites on Webfusion (sister company to 123-reg, offering "bigger" packages)
            and
I have been trying to upload our catalog onto a 123-reg/pipex hosting service for our website.

123 and webfusion are both part of Pipex - confused???

jo is correct though if you need SSL then webfusion is not for you.

You are mixing up 123-reg and UK-reg Jo i think, they are different. UK-reg is fasthosts, 123-reg is pipex/webfusion.

                    123-reg and UK-reg
Indeed I thought these 2 were the same one , thus both fasthosts.

A quick www search shows webfusion=pipex=hosteurope thus you need to be careful webfusion sites don't end up in Germany as they consolidate

and then they all move to Italy

Is there anything that i need to be aware of when moving.
What do i do should my current host not be accommodating?

Its such a huge decision for us to move.. i don't want to unknowingly jeopardize my business.

You should check out how to get the domain name transferred.

In my View the best way to handle this is to move the domain reg to someone like Easily or uk-reg where you will get a control panel. Get the domain name moved WITHOUT changing nameservers.

Then at your own leisure you point the nameservers to your chosen host - site downtime will be anything from 1/2 hour to 24 hours (dependant on www DNS propagation.

This method is very useful for com registrations as they often take 5 days to transfer registrar, during that time its difficult to know when the DNS will change.

If your domain is already separate from your host, don't worry, just get the new hosting set up and then change NS

Totally agree with the above, get the IPS tag changed first, get control and then changed named servers at your leisure.

They have just finished moving all the datacenters to Leeds so fingers crossed they will stay there for a while - famous last words

Thanks for your advice...particularly generous from you Jo considering i don't use your services. (wish there was a forum charity box for when you feel like you want to give a bit back!)

I'm pretty sure i have to give notice to my current host which may well now exceed the length of my current contract; so looks like i may be cornered into staying
