    Don't you just love...

...`customers` who ask for samples with absolutely no intention of paying...

...and have an attitude of `well I'm the chief exec of Baked Beans Amateurs FC` so you'll do as I ask...

    My top 2 favourites are:

    1. "I am presenting to the board of XYZ MegaCorp who want 50,000 of them - can I buy just one item at the 50,000 rate as a sample?" : translation = "I only want the one but don't want to pay the single unit rate"

    2. "I will pop back with the wife next week and buy it" : translation = "Blimey thats more than I was hoping to pay as I usually buy crap stuff, I don't want to appear tight so will make the excuse and pretend to come back next week"

      or this:

"I'm product testing for an obscure magazine/tv show/radio show/newspaper. can I have a product for free and then we'll mention your site, knowing full well that no good will come of it"

      or even:

"our sports club/mothers meeting/melon eating club is having a tournament and we need a prize for free and you just so happen to sell sports equipment/biscuits/melons spoons. can we have one as a prize?"

We're still waiting for the customer who said could we put half dozen bits to one side (which, foolishly we did) as she was going to the cashpoint to get the cash nearly 2 years ago.....would it not be easier to say 'I can't afford it'

Another fav is when they come in saying 'wow, I could buy everything in here' they always leave empty handed.

        Customers....you have to love them!!!!

A well known company I used to work for many moons ago used to order 5% on top of the normal order qty for this purpose and send them out to a/b seeded clients....

BUT they used to add the unit cost onto the sales price so everyone was a winner....

Pain in the butt I know if margins are tight, but for every 4 peeps who do not order 1 will so is it worth it?

I sell riptop nylon in a size of 1M x 1.5M and had someone ask me if i could send a sample so the could try printing on it. They tghen specified it needs to be 1M x 1M. They need this piece before they ordered loads

I politly responded that the size they asked for was not what we would call a sample and explained the material was suitable for screen printing

I have to bring this thread back to life as I have experienced all these posts in some way or another and it is amazing what you're asked.......

typically, the "trade customer" who asks for a discount if he buys 3 of xxxxxx, I say "yea, I can do a small amount for you"

He then comes back and wants only 1 of xxxxx at the same discounted rate to "try it out"!!

                  hmmmm, bog off!

I sell security systems etc online and I get one guy who buys a two wire system, meaning you only connect two wires and they are colour coded A and B

He emails me twice and phones three times to find out how he connects it up!! doh...

                      Final one for now...

the classic email at 3pm, the customer who wants bla bla first thing next morning

I email back saying "the courier has gone so it will be sent for the following day after"

He then replies "that's a pitty as I was going to order 5,000 of them right now"

                      yea right!
