    WebSite Designing Software

    I was involved with a local group and built them a very simple website in Dreamweaver - it never got update much - usual story they never gave me anything new to put on it!

    Anyway - I have now left said group and they want to update the website - they don't have dreamweaver and can't really afford to buy any software - but what they would like is something whereby various people in the organisation can update the websites from their own pc's.

    I know that Macromedia has contribute but from what I've read each person wanting to update would have to purchase a contriubte license which is not feasible for this group.

    Can anyone recommend any other software out there that is cheap or preferably free that will allow this?

    Thanks

    Would blogging software be worth considering perhaps?

      maybe a content management system will allow them to do what they want. but cost wise i do not know how much it will be

        I have used Joomla for this in the past. Its an open source content management system. Its easy to install and customise and you can set each user up with different levels of access so that they can change different things. If they are only looking for a way of changing page content rather than the code then something like this is probably the easiest.

          Another one is Mambo (which I think is almost identical to Joomla). A third would be Xoops. All are open source and therefore can be used FOC.

            Yes go for an online content management system. I recently did a small site using Wordpress.

            this allows you to have webpages and a blog, ideal for collaboration, loads of themes to download too

                Joomla gets the "thumbs up" from me...there are a lot of themes available too, which can be especially good for the non-design minded

                  If its a community group then you may be able to get a grant to buy contribute. This site www.shapcumbria.co.uk uses contribute and has many contributors - it was grant funded and is now paid for by advertisers on the site.

                    if you're html inclined, there's notepad++

                    and i'd also try something simple in the cms department, such as 'modx'.
