    Community Forum Search

Just to add fuel to the 'Forum Search' critics fire:

In the advanced search it clearly states

"You can also use '*' as a wildcard e.g. *ctinic will find the word 'Actinic'."

so, I thought I'd quickly check, using this suggestion.

    I searched for 'Actinic' - 500+ results
    I searched for '*ctinic' - 4 results

! Bit of disparity there , and not helping people who are at least trying to search for answers.

I haven't checked any of the other Advanced search 'claims'.

Grrr - I'll try re-building the search index and see if I have any joy.

Sadly, vBulletin doesn't have a Google search function, but I'm going to try adding one to the head part of the site.

Google Co-Op search engine could be used here as well.

Allow you to "Actinic" the google search result page in keeping with forum design - if you wanted to that is!

Really I want to get the proper forum search working correctly. Until then, I have added a Google search bar to the top of the design, and I'll do some more work.

so is it searching the community on the actinic server or googles index of the community?

It can only ever search google's index. As I say, it's a temporary thing. Please allow the improvements in the community to take some time - because they will.

I wasn't knocking it, Chris.. it's "in your face" to anyone coming in and that can only be a good thing.

It just doesn't perform as well as the "real" forum search for now....emphasis on "for now" because over time that will improve too

I can see new forum users using the Google search...not finding what they want, and heading straight to post on the forum though, rather than using the forum search as well...

Is it not possible to display the forum search in the same way as the google one? ie... with the search bar etc actually ON the main pages?

It looks pants, and wastes valuable `priority stuff` space.

(shove it into the main logo bar thingy maybe?)
