    Fridays Freakout

    Telephone `surveys`.

Please, just don't ask if a) I'm busy or b) that I really don't mind telling you my electric/banking/phone details. No, really I don't.

    Bunch o' scartissues.

this is a sore point for me.

you see, i'v worked in a company that uses cold calling drones, and its different from their perspective.

you see, they are primed with the knowledge that they are doing you a favour, and the act of being turned down is an insult to them. thus, their forward nature.

i usually sing them a song, or play 80's computer game music down the phone. they usually dont phone back.

if that's the case, then I've insulted a LOT of drones in my time!
cold callers get nothing from me...sometimes I just hang up..sometimes I just interrupt or talk over them and say "no thanks" and hang up. I never wait for an explanation or a response. I've learned to be rude, I suppose, but I'd never apologise for it.

If you don't like being hung up on...go work somewhere else

wow... I truly *am* in a good mood today

        drones...

i did not know they can walk as well...

annoying little people that do not understand "I AM NOT F%$£%$ INTERESTED"

by the way, post office started doing similar things when we drop post to them (not to us cause they know us). you can hear them "have you heard PO doing credit card or they offer this new phone etc..) arghhhhhhhh.....

          omg yes!
We have a tiny local PO (although I don't visit with BB mail any more, it's collected from our office building..but anyway...) manned by a lovely couple. It's big enough for many 5 or 6 to queue and not much else!
Despite this, nearly half the times I go in there...there is some annoying Post Office sales guy stood there with a clipboard trying to sign up people for the Post Office phone account, credit card or similar.
I mean, you can't swing a cat in this place anyway...and it's always full of (how can I say politely) little old ladies who really don't need some pushy jobsworth trying to talk them into switching their phone when all they want is their pension and a pint of milk!! (stereotyping only to make a point!)

It makes my blood boil! Clipboarders...they get the same treatment as cold callers...only they can SEE my face as I scowl at them

I never tell them i am not the person they need to speak to, i say I will go and get the correct person. Then leave them on hold listening to itunes - if they like my music their targets are b****ered, if they don't I send them to sleep with my EASY LISTENING so get the same effect.

sooner or later they hang up

When you get that unmistakeable Indian accent on the end of the phone and you can only understand 1 word in 3, i too have adopted the instantaneous "not interested, thank you" and put the phone down. They are just relentless.

What i want to know is who are the pratts that take them up on their kind offers. If nobody did there would no phonecalls. I'm yet to find someone who admits to it, but surely someone is using the service, it'd be scrapped as a money losing exercise otherwise.

The b*st*ards are getting clever though - we are getting a lot of pre-recorded message calls, and a tape recorder really doesn't care what you say to it (well I presume it doesn't care.....).

Jo - this easy listening tag has really got to you hasn't it

I once had an indian lass phone us up and wanted to "talk to someone about your phones" - the boss just replied "sorry, we don't use phones in this company" - "Thats ok, sorry to trouble you" came back the reply, and they hung up

I get probably 2 aday, i recently had a spate as a guy in the head office thought i would be good to take all the cold calls, but what he was doing was giving them my name and number. He was leaving in a couple of weeks, B*****d, got my own back he left a trail of phone numbers and his personnal email accounts.

He was a bit bitter after a frank discussion one day.

As we now give them spoof names and tell them to call the london number

Things like Anita Bath, Mike Hunt e.t.c as most of them are call centres somewhere in asia they dont see the joke. I find it funny though

Had a call from a very stoppy Yorkshire lass yesterday .. she was quite obvisouly disgusted when I refused to put her through to the marketing manager (me) .. 'oh really', she said ... her call was an 'informational call' not a cold call, she was from google apparently, but not from the real google when asked a direct question, her manager was busy on another call when I asked to speak to him or her and she left me to go and 'do her job' when I said we had telephone preferences set up.

I think I annoyed her more than she annoyed me but the daft thing is I feel rather guilty about being so mean to her, it was her attitude, it was just silly.

She was from - it's not very warm outside- (paraphrased to avoid unnecessary seo - a seo company that should be avoided at all costs, Pat spent a hour or so on the phone to them 6 months or so ago (think they annoyed him as well) and they basically host 100's of meaningless sites with links to the people that pay them, a recipe for disaster IMO.

                          Regards,
