    Best blogging stuff

I want to start a blog about a hobby of mine (playing poker online). I've never done a blog before and have no idea where to start. Do you buy a domain and put blog software on it or do you start a blog on an existing site? I'm thinking the former. What do others do?

The reasons I want to do it? Well it's of interest to me and I'm building my account gradually and would like to catalogue my progress for my own and others benefit. Also, clicks are pretty well paid in this market so there may some small affiliate benefits.

Plus, I can whack a link on there for the website

    Any advice?

WOOHOO Steve we found some common ground, i played in the UK Open in 2004 on Challenge TV. I've been playing on and off for about 5 years now.

Most hosting packages offer blogging now or you can just sign up to a blogging site. I prefer your own blog on your own domain, less risk of losing it then.

There are loads of shared sites where you can have your own blog ie myblog.someoneelsesdomain.co.uk

or you can add a blog to an existing site,

      either as a subdomain - subdomain.domain.co.uk

or in its own folder - domain.co.uk/blog/myblog

or as a new site mybloggingsite.co.uk

if you go down the own blog route there is an industry standard peice of open source blogging software called wordpress.

Great, thanks guys, I think I'll go that route.

Lee, what format do you prefer? I like tournament Holdem NL games at the mo and am doing OK over time. It's still very much a hobby but I'm progressing upwards and moving to bigger stakes as I reach a new level and dropping back if I lose a few.

I don't like limit and suspect that a lot of people are running poker bots out there which are almost impossible to beat over time in the limit game. The good thing about NL is a bot can't read the human mind.

I used to work in the money markets so it's familiar territory.
