    Bandwidth

OK, spinning off from another thread - BANDWIDTH

a couple of questions if i may

    1) Has anyone else noticed and increase in BW since the introduction of V8 compared to V6 & V7

    2) What do people see as large BW per months 5gb, 10gb 30gb

    Just curious thats all

Ive seen a general increase but that is possibly due to the use of larger image file sizes than previously as most people are now on broadband.

      1) Yes but sales and visits are up, so expected IMO. Uniques up 100-200 per day since V8 on many i've seen, which is most likely to improved SERPS amongst the normal upward trends you should see of course.

      2) 1,000 unique visits a day, 5,000 products, 10-15 sales a day, i'd expect 15-20GB bandwidth use. It's all a bit subjective as videos and alike can also come into play. Large bandwidth use would be 30-50GB for me, but not on video/photo sites etc.

Good point Malcolm, mine has not really changed, maybe some new stuff, and i actually removed a background image from the layouts, just seems higher now than it used to be, sales are up, but not as much as BW just was not sure about it all

I like the figures Lee, you know Jont will be along to kick the arse out of them soon though, you formula seems reasonable, unfortunatley i dont have 5000 kites mind saying that i think there is around 2500 products on the C & A site so maybe worth a little more investigation

I was discounting increased sales etc and only thinking about things we may have done to site that would have increased bandwidth ie V8 related. The code in V8 is cleaner than V7 so that would drop bandwidth.

V8 is a little like the stock market at the moment - I am expecting a drop in V8 SERPs as google has changed its algo yet again to improve the SERPs of database driven sites which will now compete with V8 sites more.

Fair point, the marketing lists would be a biggie then as they can cause complete site uploads when in sidebars. Depends where you have them and how frequent they change though of course.

A drop in V8 SERPs wouldn't go a miss lol, people might be forced to get it done right, rather than having a half cocked attempt fumbling along. Get some more telephone lines installed Mal!

Something i have never been good at but am still learning, hopefully as i still continue with my battle for single product pages i can improve this aswell

Of course, had not really given it much thought, but yep more uploading going on aswell

Agreed and this is possibly the single biggest area that would increase bandwidth, especially if you have a largish site and they are set to every upload. Also along the same lines having a test site running and all the work that involves to templates that cause a complete upload as well would significantly increase BW. IMO if you have the same V7 and V8 site then V8 will have a lower BW all things being equal - but they never are so it would be hard proving it.
