Trouble getting forum to load properly

ok, so I know I spend too much time here but this is driving me nuts!
since Friday morning I've had huge problems getting the forum to load.
80% of the time, page loads are timing out on me and, when they do load, they do really slowly or they half load (broken links/images etc)

Wasn't sure if it was my connection at first but other computers in the house are fine (including Nik's laptop which has a slower connection than mine usually) and I'm not having problems on any other websites at all (I do actually visit other sites LOL)

I've run AVG spyware, Spybot search and destroy and CCleaner...all have picked up the odd bit of crap but nothing has fixed anything.
Not having any other problems except that my processor starts complaining when I try to load up forum pages!

Has anyone got any other ideas I can try?
    Or has somebody jinxed me?

editted to add...I'm having the same problems in FF and IE (although IE times out quicker) and when I've clicked on something, the browser is freezing completely until it either loads or times out. Can't right click on anything while it's trying to load (which I usually do, being impatient LOL)

    I can't understand it...other sites are fine...both browsers aren't right...and my broadband is ok

uninstall FF and see it this makes it better

and of course re-install FF, before you try to reload the forum.

I have had the same for the past 6 months Tracey at least 5 times a day. It is DSN related as far as i have been able to work out. Right click on your network symbol, click repair, within 10 seconds of reconnecting, it works fine again until the next time. Every other site works fine, just this one fails.

ok..here's hoping I can actually post this this time (been trying on and off for an hour )

I've uninstalled FF and re-installed. No change.
Mind you, IE is as bad, if not worse because it times out even quicker.

I've repaired my connection with no effect.
Actually, it'll be interesting to see if it's as bad at the office tomorrow as this problem did start on Friday morning/lunchtime...but I can't remember if I was still at work or home (came home early with ill 4yo)

I'm fairly sure I was still at the office when it started (G, can you remember when I asked you if it was me or the forum?) so that means it's doing it in 2 independent locations so rules out the actual connection itself.

It's obviously a local problem, but I have no idea what.

I see this very frequently also - thought it was only me.

have you looked at your internet connection

                    Network connections, properties, TCP/IP Properties

you could hard code the DNS tables to be used there, or if they aren't set to automatic use that

right...in the office this morning and having no problems at all with the forum loading.
so it's definitely a problem with my connection at home or, more specifically, my laptop connection at home (because the pc and Nik's laptop are fine)

I'll have to take a look at my connection later when I'm home. I sometimes have to manually put in an alternative IP address at the office, because my automatic one doesn't work (although I then have to remember to change it back when I get home) so I'll have a look this evening if I'm still having problems.

I needed to search the forums for something yesterday and gave up because it just wouldn't do it.
I'm bloody lost without the forum at home!
                      Sad but true

                        run flushDNS too

"Sometimes the DNS tables on your PC will be preventing you from seeing a website. To correct this do the following:

                        1 Start Menu, Run
2 In the command box that appear type in "ipconfig flushdns" (without the quotes)
3 Return to your browser and type in the URL"

if your connection is wireless, then right click on the wireless icon in your system tray, and click repair.

this is effectively the same as flushdns too.

I did that yesterday Gabe and it didn't help at all.

It's like the Actinic gods are trying to keep me away

thanks Jo, I will try that.
If it's as bad later today as it's been over the weekend, I'd try anything!
