Yes, we use them for all of our non-payers and have been sucessful everytime. It's cheap and it's easy.
Another nice way to get money from people that 'forget' to answer their work telephone, is to get the home telephone numbers of the directors for companies that haven't paid (you can get these from companies house), then you can call them at home to ask for your money.
We have only resorted to using moneyclaim once and are very pleased to say the customer paid very quickly including the £80 court fee
We also use on a regular basis a firm of Business Debt Collection Solicitors called Thomas Higgins who can be found at http://www.thomashiggins.com/
For £2 plus vat they will send to your customer(s) a Letter Before Action which basically gives them 5-7 days to pay before you take further legal action to recover the debt and associated costs.
In our expericence in 99% of cases the above letter has been sufficent and payment has been promptly received.
Thanks for the replies - we have a customer who has steadfastly ignored all payment statements and at this late date has decided to write a letter of complaint to us about our service, citing it as a reason not to pay! Just an avoidance tactic I suppose.
