Webspace/Hosting - No folders?

Bit of a long shot, but have you tried all of the following from their help section?:

"Why do I still get a holding page after I have uploaded my website?This answer will show you the most common solutions to this problem.

The following is a simple checklist to help you identify the problem:

Check that the files have uploaded. You can do this with FTP or by using the "Manage Files" system in the 123-reg.co.uk control panel.

Type in the full URL of a file you know is there, for example an image (e.g. http://www.mydomain.co.uk/image.jpg)
If this works, check that the first file of your site is labelled index.htm or index.html

Try a hard refresh. This is different to simply pressing the refresh button. Press Ctrl + F5. This will request a complete reload of the page from the web server.

Try clearing your computer's cache."

I'm sure you have, but I thought it might be worth mentioning!

There is something in a cgi_bin, but it looks like something that 123 have put there - can you see this in FTP?:

No There are 3 folders in the root that I see, All of which I created. I have a cgi-bin floder but its empty.

At the risk of getting hold of the wrong end of the stick, are you saying that you are NOT trying to upload an Actinic site, you simply want to put one page on your domain? (So you don't need any other folders at all)

I have a 123-reg site that does just this, nothing to do with Actinic - I created the home page 'index.htm' (or .html).......

Right-clicked on it to 'copy'

Logged on to hostings9.123-reg.etc through IE6 with my username & password....

Right-clicked the centre of the screen and pasted the file....

Typing in my url now displays the page.

(Apologies if I'm butting in where not wanted)

Its not rocket science! - there is even inbuilt ftp in your control panel to upload the files.

If you dont have the skills then pay someone to do it for you.

Ruralweb - I know its not rocket science, you seem to be missing the point. The issue is not uploading the files. They are there and I can see them when I ftp in. But when viewed in the browser all i get is the holding page.

If 123reg have registered the domain and are hosting it (all done at the same time) and I've followed all the instructions in the setup emails, surely that should be it?

Not really - if the dns is not pointing at the hosting then you will get the effect you describe.

1 Log into the 123-reg.co.uk control panel

2 Click on the "Modify Domain" button

3 Click on the "Manage DNS" link

4 You will now see the DNS management screen. From here you can add/remove A records, CNAMES and MX records

Thanks for that, but at the risk of being shot down again - I have no idea what those settings are supposed to be.

And yes I understand your "pay someone to do it if your not capable" comment. But surely thats what I have paid 123reg for, I expected that all would be set up just to upload my site it would work? (as i have done before)

I suspect you missed checking the "point my domain to my hosting box" when you ordered the package.

If your not happy with 123 then I suggest you move your domain and get your money back

No did that.

Hence the reason for my frustration. The whole point of using the same company to both purchase and host the domain was to make life easy!
