    Transfer to new PC software

I'm planning on getting rid of an old pc running Windows XP Home and replace it with a new desktop running Window Vista.

Does anyone have any recommendations for software that will transfer everything; settings, internet set-up, programs from one to another?

I appreciate there is alot of software of this type available but would prefer something that's recommended.

this is a VERY bad idea.

blowing air into a popped balloon isnt going to inflate it.

fresh install sir, its the only way.

Yep, agree with Gabe. I would also reformat the hard drive as soon as you receive the new desktop to zap any crap that whoever you got it from has put on it, if you are confident doing this.

each of your apps should have the ability to export a settings file

ie i use Filezilla for FTP and there is an export there, the same applies to thunderbird for email profiles, and DW for sites.

So the consensus is fresh install on apps - which you knew anyway - and export settings from each app you need them for.

              OK Guys, maybe I was just being a little lazy with the software request but now I have your attention i'll hijack my own thread with this;

I've got Actinic Multi Site v8.5.1 running three active sites. Upload is taking a considerably longer time than v7 and whilst i'm uploading one site, I cannot download from another site. Also the switching between site process is slow and also prone to screen freeze.

What would you suggest are my options?

Am i really looking at one pc per site.

There are known performance issues with Multi site 8.5.1 - this may improve with 8.5.2.

Are you using marketing lists on the sites ie bestsellers on everypage - this will slow down uploading as every page has to be uploaded - there is a solution to this posted somewhere - where you can place bestsellers etc in a separate file to be called, thus negating uploading everypage

Yes i've bestsellers on every page.

Thanks Jo, i'll try and track down the info.

Try running the best sellers on each site fixed, i.e. you go to the list and select what you want to show as the best seller and lock it same with new product, it saves the program running through everything to get the answer plus this way you can fiddle the results to what you want them to know

I managed to get one semi-inflated recently via Ghost but was a real pig requiring multiple re-installations of Windows back over the top of everything - even then quite a few settings were lost.
