    What Flooring

    OK

Having built this conservatory and pretty much finished everthing now i need to do the floor. Question is what type of floor so over to you guys for recommendations of flooring types.

The floor is chip board tongue and groove with insultaion board underneath, no underfloor heating, could not be arsed to put it in so is it "carpet or laminate or real wood flooring"

Cant quite decide , doubt if it is going to be carpet, to messy being by room on the garden and a 6 year old. But maybe be convinced other wise.

    Suggestions please

Good large tiles should be best, a bit cool in winter but heaven in summer and easy to keep clean, may have to put another layer over the chip board though

we have an extention on the house instead, its the kids play room

we have carpet just now while there young saves them slipping on entry from a wet garden

but she is looking at tiles to go through to the kitchen

but i prefer the idea of not killing myself when coming in from the garden

Knock the conservatory down and get a hot tub instead and you want water as the floor on that.

If you buy it from one of the sheds, i would agree, but im thinking more of the laminate with solid wood vener, not quite the same

No bloody chance, i have already marked the wall out for the large flat screen plasma, besides the hot tub is going at the top of the garden

Tiles, have really considered these but it would mean underfloor heating and that is the bit im struggling with, i like the idea of cool floor in the summer, much like med style houses but i intend to use this room alot, this is a serious conservatory so i need to decide on the winter.

Carpet i want carpet but i just know what it will look like, i like my cosey creature comforts. and i had not thought about the slipping side of things with tile or laminate floors.

Mind i hope you all realise that i will probably end up with what Mrs Darrens says im having

              thanks Guys

We have wooden floors in the house and laminate (real cheap stuff) in the goathouse (where the children play because we have no goats - it's not safe in the Actinic world to keep goats), the laminate is far more hard wearing, but the wood is much nice to look at. Both are excellent for indoor skating(on teatowels) and for toy cars to roll along, which as you have kids are probably important factors.

Amtico is nice if you want laminate, but we've never been able to afford that. If you go for wood - or laminate with wood veneer, it will darken over time but it won't under rugs or furniture - in a conservatory this might be quite noticable (unless you glue all of the furniture to the floor then you won't notice).

why you dont put tiles like med houses

and then do what they do during the winter

put carpet down. majority of stuff my parents have back home are very warm (at least to step on)

Good point Jan, had not really thought about the uv problem with the floor, i have with the furniture. Hmmm going to need to think about this, could end up being bloody tiles now, i really cant decide. I knew this would end up being the case

Thats it, let the wife make the decision then when its wrong, i can say it was what she wanted

Ive got Ash solid wood floor in my conservatory. Hard as nails and because its light in colour it does not fade. Kids and dog do what they want and it just wipes clean.

Mrs Darren says you will be having tiles, those expensve italian ones, and that you will also have some large woolen rugs on top in the winter. So stop dreaming and get down to B&Q with your wallet. Now!
