That said, you could have put that bunch of duffers onto the best pitch in Europe and our inadequacies against superior techncians would still have been exposed.

What many of the hacks are overlooking is the fact that

1 We now go into Sundays' WC draw as 2nd seeds (hence the likelyhood of meeting top seeds such Italy, France, Germany etc is nailed on)

2 No competitive match in 10 months means that our FIFA ranking will continue to slide and the potential to become 3rd rated seeds is extremely heightened. This will compound point 1
