Afternoon miss bumps, sorry missed this this morning

OK supplimentary pages noob question - would all new pages be listed as supplimental aswell.

The reason i ask is i have created hundreds of new pages in the last 8 weeks on a couple of sites, and using steves link it looks like a complete disaster. but when i checked a site i have not really done much with except update basic stuff the % is alot lower.

Sorry, didn't want to wreck anyone's weekend! I think it's important to know these things and it is a particular area of concern for our site so I have done some research into it.

Alan, it appears to be a lot of your SPP pages are supp which is the same secanario as us. They have loads of good content on so the logical explanation is not enough PR coming down the tree from the top. We are currently embarking on a concentrated backlink campaign to the home page to see if this works over the next few months.

Darren, it's not uncommon for new pages to hit supplemental first and then go into the main index later on. It's when they stick that you have a problem.

It's also worth noting that pages can be in both indexes at the same time.

Oh thanks Steve, just confuse me even more

Well good news google has updated the there index, well added another page to the results, im not complaining, i put a fragment in the home page with a link to the right page now, so i am pleased with it.

But it looks good on live search, as someone told me earlier (thank you miss bumps ) with the top 4 results for both sites i cant complain

is there a useful tool anywhere that tells you which pages are listed as supplemental?

              You can do:

              Code:
              site:www.website.com/*
to get a good idea, not 100% perfect but pretty close.

See post 12. There is an explanation at the bottom of the page as to how it works. May be possible to fiddle with that to get just the supps. You can get the main index pages by adding /* on the end of the site command.

I am not asking how many pages are supplemental, i was after knowing the which actual pages are supplemental.

Surely you need to know which pages are supplemental in order to remedy each page

There is little point IMO as Google now treats theses pages the same as any other page:

Since 2006, we've completely overhauled the system that crawls and indexes supplemental results. The current system provides deeper and more continuous indexing. Additionally, we are indexing URLs with more parameters and are continuing to place fewer restrictions on the sites we crawl. As a result, Supplemental Results are fresher and more comprehensive than ever. We're also working towards showing more Supplemental Results by ensuring that every query is able to search the supplemental index, and expect to roll this out over the course of the summer.

The distinction between the main and the supplemental index is therefore continuing to narrow. Given all the progress that we've been able to make so far, and thinking ahead to future improvements, we've decided to stop labeling these URLs as "Supplemental Results."

This work is far from finished though and supplemental pages are crawled far less often and often not fully indexed. Most of the pages we have in the main indexed are crawled at least weekly, many daily. The supps are not crawled anywhere near as often. I have pages which we optimised in October and have not been re-crawled since August so that new work has not yet been seen.

Hopefully the end result will be google losing supplementals altogether and making far more use of duplicate filters etc. to get good results.

How do you know they are optimised? - the algorithum changes all the time and what you did in october is out of date now.
