    boot disk

i am going round in ever decreasing circles....

I need a W98 boot disk with the format command on it, can anyone recommend somewhere i can download a CD/DVD bootdisk from, or how to create one.

my probelm is I've got an old Dell with XP on it, but i can't get ubuntu to load properly it gives me IO errors. I want ot install this machine as an ubuntu machine and thus need to kill /remove XP completely

Therefore i want to boot the Dell from CD/DVD and then format the hard disk, then boot from ubuntu disk and install ubuntu.

ACtually as i write this, i realise i could boot from ubuntu/run it from the DVD, and find a ubuntu command to format the disk...

Ok I'm off to try that, but in the meanwhile if anyone has any ideas - that would be nice too.

i only remember from my old days about doing it onto floppy (hmm does that sound right)

    Basicaly

    sys a:
and edit the config.sys and autoexec.bat files and stick a load cd drive, need the ms cd driver on the disk aswell

now let me have a look in my dusty old collection, as the files are the same but obviously you need a bootable cd.

Sadly we've been here before, some people can delete threads others can't i'm one who can't

see screen grab of the page i see when choosing edit

                Ah, I've just noticed something....

if you "edit" the first post in a thread you only get the option to edit it, if you "edit" a post within a thread you get the option to delete it.

Anyway progress has been made - I downloaded the 7.10 Ubuntu alternative ISO, this CD then forces an install to HD, and offers the option to partition a disk or use the entire HD (thus removing old XP - this no need to reformat disk before installing) Just got to get networking/www working and i'm away

i think your wireless adapter has the prism chipset, or a ralink, so you'll probably be fine.

but your router isnt really relegant, you dont need drivers for that.

the only way you can know is to test it
