New skypephone..24 hours on since arrival

Just thought I would share my opinion on the new skype phone from 3.

    Pros:

Got it yesterday and it looks better than the images online, small, sleek and very light.

Great for chatting on skype wherever you are and a fab way to keep in touch with your customers free on skype without being chained to a desk/lappy.

Easy to use, breeze to configure

    Cons:
    Not compatible with skypein/out

Skype call quality is currently poor to unusable.

Will post more when I have tried to break it further....

    Cool Daren

I'm thinking of getting one, and/or 3g broadband too

but i am considering 3g BB from vodafone too

to many choices with 12-18 month lock in periods, and things get better every month or so

      Agreed there.

Hopeful the skypein/out gets added soon....would be marvellous then (as long as the clarity is there.)

This kind of puts a stop to it doesn't it? Something that doesn't work properly is worse than not having it at all.

We should keep tabs on this..... I have a dual phone (base unit is plugged into router/PC does not need to be on) at home, and have had for about a month. I use it all the time now for outgoing calls (using Skype Out)

but yesterday for the first time an incoming call to my landline on dual was breaking up all over the place. Not sure what caused that as presumably Skype wasn't involved

with your customers free on skype
its only free skype to skype, 0.029p Skype to landline on dual. 12p pm on mobile PAYG to landlines

Having spoke to 3 this morning, there is a current issue with the skype call service that is being worked on and they are aware of it

Yes Jo, skype to skype is free to skype users only BUT my main premise for purchase is that a vast number of my support clients have it and do request we skype chat so I have filled this particular need and can be skyped anywhere.

Also, when skypein/out (early next year) becomes active, this is also a massive plus for my business as I use it constantly.

It also works as a nice standalone mobile too, this is my first exploration into 3G and I have to say I am impressed.

              I just love 3G....

I can see my ditching fixed BB soon, I've got my eye on Vodafone 7.2mb 3G BB, the main ball breaker at the mo is the 3gb monthly limit (this stuffs up backup procedures over it.)

My problem at the mo is i would have to sign up and pay for international roaming for 6 months at £95 pm as you can not downgrade your plan for the first 6 months of a contract. I would prefer my first 6 months to be UK based so i can then up and down the plan as i require it.

Its one of those dilemmas - do i sign up for 18 months only to find something better comes along.

When a service wants you to sign up for 18 months, i always find it concerning, it's as though they know something you don't. I would only take a 2 year tie in on a mortgage, no more, so 18 months seems well over the top for something like this IMO.

if it didn't have my blackberry curve i'd be looking at skype mobile - fortunately the curve is 12 months contract - but all things considered i'd probablty stick with it as it has a proper keyboard (skype mobile doesn't)

if contracts were too short peeps would be changing plans every 5 mins! I would
