    Linux or Windows Server

Ok i have trawlled around the forum but this question has not been directly asked.

What servers would people recommend for actinic, i know alot of people have had problems with windows settings in the past but being there is a far few people here with various hosts and platforms i though i would ask what there experience says

Linux/Unix everytime for me unless i have a specific need for Windows. It's just easier and less problematic IMO. Needing ASP or .net would usually be my only reasons for having Windows.

same here. The only time I would consider using a windows server would be if I was an absolute expert in using it.

That kind of expertise tends to be fairly specialised and expensive. Not your typical actinic user.

1and1 for most of my sites.

We have both windows and linux servers. We have actinic on both - problemfree.

We recommend Linux to our actinic clients unless they have a reason for needing windows ie SQL or ASP etc

              I also use 1and1.

If you have any technical ability then several of the main names seem to be fine (just avoid fasthosts).

If you want handholding then a specialist such as pinbrook or 4sure is worth checking. (Not for you Darren, but for others who will read this thread).

Remembering the road to Actinic enlightenment is a long and sometimes painful one.

Darren might like his hand held

I have sites on both 4sure and wiserhosting.com.
Wiserhosting have Actinic compatible hosting for £25 a year and, so far, it's been trouble free (with far higher uptime than 4sure!)

Neither of my main sites are currently hosted on there but I have 4 others that are and I do know Darren has had an Actinic site up there for some time which has been problem-free too.

Support desk is average but I can't comment on their Actinic knowledge myself as I've never tested it.

                  Worth considering maybe

thank you miss bumps, im a big boy now and im allowed to cross the road too

And as for wiser, i stumbled acroos them by accident a while ago, and needed to dump a domain somehwere and thats were it has been ever since, does not have all the options some might want but is trouble free and runs actinic without any issues, they also have free shared ssl if you need, all included in the £25.

hmmm so many hosts so many choices
