Site Visits from unfriendly bots

I've recently been looking at my stats a little more closely, and find the i'm 'losing' a lot of bandwidth to the following IP address in the United States: 208.99.195.54

When I search on this address there are a few acticles suggesting that this is an 'unfriendly' bot and should be banned from visiting your site.

Anyone have any experience of this or suggestions as to if I should take any action or precautions?

If you want to then ban that IP from accessing the site. You can often do this from your server control panel but it depends who you use. Why not ask your host of the best way to do this as it's really a server rather than actinic issue.

I'd block it in the .htaccess file.
This range is allocated to Swift: 208.99.192.0 - 208.99.223.255

order allow,deny
deny from 208.99.195.54
allow from all

I would block it at server level

i spotted a similar thing a few weeks back but i assumed it was a us customer searching through our store

We will consider all requests to block - we will investigate any IP and if it is found to be malicious we will block it - best to put a request into our support desk along with any info you have to help us check it out
