Section re-design - what do you think?

OK - its nothing radical, but i'd really appreciate your thoughts on a proposed layout:

The new layout is 1 prod per section - so make sure you click on a product to see that too.

I see you are trying to get rid of the ext info pages. The old layout is better in that it has the buy ability - transfer the buy buttons etc to the new layout and it will be better

Thanks for the feedback Malcolm - if I put the buy button on, i'll have to put the price on, and variants etc. Are you suggesting this to satisfy customers who don't want any extra product info?

Exactly - otherwise you are asking them to click on every item to even see the price - they will soon get fed up with that and leave

Agreed - you run the risk of the less experienced shopper not knowing they can buy the item there and then

Out of interest because I looked to see how you'd done it, for the bottom of the Store Sections panel you have:

Trying to get price on sectionline template - must be doing something fundamentally wrong as the price wont show when I do a preview - just the NETQUOTEVAR:PRODUCTPRICE. Heres the code - could someone check it for me - i'd be dead grateful

I'm not sure if anyone has ever achieved this on section layouts in V7, its always been manual in V7 from what i recall. In V8 it is now possible automatically.

Lee: Thanks for that - I can get round it for the moment by putting the price into a Section Description field I think.

I think the only way to be able to do this is to (for single page per product) use a cut down product layout duplicate instead as a link to the product page instead of the section link. Much like you did on your old layout except that you can remove the options, description etc.

Does he then need to install the hack to get the extended info pages to open in the same window though? Or is that V6, i'm practically blank on V7 now.

I've found a little workaround for the moment - put price in Section description and pulled it through using NQV:Sectiontext. It'll do for now - will be upgrading to V8 relatively soon so I don't want to spend too much time on it. I think it looks ok - have a look here if you have the time

Duncan - I wanted to avoid our old method of doing this as it kept breaking - more likely to be a prob with my level of knowledge, as opposed to anything else, but the bottom line is I understand why the current way i'm doing 1pps works, whereas I don't with the old way!

I'd add some line breaks as required to the section descriptions so the boxes are all the same size though.

Looks better but as dunc says tidy the boxes. This is one reason I dont use multi columns
