Forum structure when v9 comes out?

    Hi there regular posters.

I wanted to pick your brains about the best structure to have for the Community once v9 comes out.

I don't think there's any point having separate v9 and v8 forums for PSPs, Design, Shipping etc. as the issues hit will generally be common between v9 and v8 (and in the case of shipping and PSPs, the issues are pretty much identical all the way back to v6).

So my thoughts on structure at the moment are as follows:

    Help and Advice
    -- v9 General
    -- Shipping
    -- Upgrading
    -- PSPs
    -- Upload and Server Problems
    -- v8 General
    -- v7 (and Earlier) General

    Design and Customisation
    -- Editing v8/v9 Layouts
-- Editing v7 (and earlier) Templates
    -- Actinic Developers

    Other Applications
    -- Actinic Epos
    -- Actinic Express

    Other Discussions
    -- Ecommerce Business Issues
    -- Wish List
    -- Any Other Business

This is just off the top of my brain this morning. Thoughts welcome.

I'm also planning on adding a clear message in the 'New Post' screen that asks people to state the version of Actinic they are using (and URLs etc.) I mention all this in the email people get when they sign up, but the message still doesn't get through for everyone.

I think 'SEO & Site Reviews' deserve a forum of their own and agree totally that issues like PSPs, should be generic rather than version specific as the posts will naturally mature with the progression of the software.

I also think that people posting in the correct forums needs to managed much better. All you are asking people to do is put the book on the correct shelf in case someone else wants to read it - i don't think that is much to ask of anyone, for the vast amount of free help they receive.

I think your overall suggestion looks fine - especially lumping the v8 and v9 stuff together as there are lots of crossover between the two flavours.

Agree with Lee that SEO and Reviews should have their own sub-forum ... these can be lumped together as a lot of the reviews also encompass SEO. As SEO is one of the main hooks Actinic hangs its hat upon it deserves its own area for discussion IMHO.

Great suggestion about SEO and Site Reviews. I'll definitely add it into the list.

You might want to put the showcase thread in that forum too.

            Forum structure

Hi all sounds good to me..especially the SEO addition.

OK - the forum re-jig is completed.

Let me know anything that doesn't work. You might notice I didn't go ahead with the 'v7 Templates' section - this is because I realised that v7 is no longer officially supported by Actinic (but generally we help if we can on here) so adding that new forum might give the wrong impression.

I'm also wondering whether to ditch the 'Design and Customisation' section and just move the 'v8/v9 layouts' section to the main 'Help and Advice' section, and move 'Actinic Designers' into 'Any Other Business'.

i'd say leave "designers" in the design bit where it is - it could get overlooked anywhere else and it useful for confidentiality

I'd create the SEO and site reviews bit and leave the design and customisation as is.
