    Lens for Pentax K10

Anyone any recommendations for a reasonably priced telephoto lens that will fit on a Pentax K10? Got 3 trips coming up - Oxford, Monaco Grand Prix and the Isle of Man and really could do with a good lens for long shots, although it would be useful if it was useable for most occasions.

Was thinking anything up to £300 but if any of you have any must buys then let me know.
    Cheers

Depends on what range you want and if you want a single lens. Brother has K100 and had use of the Tamron 28-300 which cover all lengths in one BUT is quite slow at 3.5 - 6.3 (the 3.5 disappears quite quickly)... he prefers his 70-300 Sigma with a 1.5 convertor as the loss of light is about the same but has the longer reach... especially combined with the 1.5x focal increase.

May be worth looking for a fast second hand 70-200 (f2.8) and match that with a teleconvertor for the range but for every day use would be a better option with the faster aperture.

The all in ones are always a compromise so if you can spare the space / weight / hassle take a standard 18-50 along as well as the longer zoom.

Check out Mifsuds.com for some good second hand deals.

Just reading in Photography Monthly review on 6 Pentax own make optics including their 15-250mm f3.5-6.3 which for a super-zoom gets a good review ... list price is £400.00 so should be able to pick up cheaper.

        Jont,

Thanks for the excellent advice. I had already seen the Sigma and had considered it, might go look at it again. Will look at the Pentax too, although it is probably slightly more than I intended to pay (although I always seem to spend twice as much as I intend so this makes little difference).

Camera equipment is more addictive than cocaine! Budgets are pointless

I have the APO version 70-300 and the results are surprisingly good.. especially at the long end hand held as I don't have the luxury of IS on my camera body so it makes it a 450mm equivalent.

I have the same issues with buying music too, soon I won't be allowed out by myself unless I have been stripped of cards, cash, cheques etc etc!
                Cheers

Camera lenses vs handbags - the great marital misunderstood addictions..

                  "Is that another new one?"
                  "No, I've had it ages"

"Why do you need ANOTHER one?"
                  "You simply don't understand"

                  "How much was THAT?"
"I got it cheap on ebay..."

                  "Whats that package?"
"Oh, just some stuff for work..."
