The simpler answer is to remove the junk you dont ever use.

this tool will make an install cd (using your own cd as a base) that lets you run only the parts of vista you will need.

I have used this tool to install a system and then install v8 and v9. Both outperform a standard install.

Coincidentally I used this last week. Top tip is once you have created your new DVD copy everything onto a high speed USB and you should find Vista will install considerably faster!

Slow Vista

The best way to speed up Vista (if you can) uninstall it and use windows XP, this means your computer will be faster, will run all software without any problems, and you won't have to hunt for printer and scanner drives.
I have Vista on a laptop, I wish I could change it to XP but there is hardware on it that seems not to have drivers available for XP.
XP is brilliant, fast, stable, & does what I want. Vista won't run Dreamweaver properly, along with other software, and a couple of older printers I have.

Maybe, but Microsoft do need to speed things up with SP1 I think, Sure Vista is stable & secure but I suppose being annoyed abour Dreamweaver MX not working properly with Vista prejudices me just a tad.
By the way, I never did whinge about XP, I liked it from the start after Windows 98 falling over every other day.

Dreamweaver won't run on Vista, not Vista won't run Dreamweaver. Software vendors had twice as long with the developent API than they did with XP. A lot of high profile vendors simply didn't update their software/drivers accordingly. Adobe and Sony being two of the biggest that I have had gripes with.

Thats said, SP1 does seem to resolve a lot of issues and certainy speeds things up on older machines.

I presumed the OP was talking about installing it, rather than the actual functionality. Once you get past the installation bugs (I have only used the Master Set CDs) it works fine for me too - not that I use DW to any advanced standard I must admit.

I was talking about fixing some of the issues that plague vista from the outset.

most of the issues with any new application are down to the wierd new security model that they have implemented. and the slowness experienced by many people using vista.

speed and security. two critical points, that microsoft seemed to ahve missed the boat on. They went hell for leather and created a pretty interface (which by the way does not even come close to the coolness of linux).

I think that removing features of vista before install is an interesting way to speed things up and simplify the OS in general. All that useless clutter i'm never going to use was getting in the way.

I even removed the help files, in my test. and nothing bad came of it

from the side of security Vista is a real pig and pain in the arse, this is true, the only problem i ever had was installing it and getting actinic to work with it, cant remember which way around i had to do it, i think DW 1st then actinic
