We switch the live chat off when we are busy - no logo shows on the site so people can't use the facility and new visitors don't even know it was ever there.
I would say though, that when punters DO use it, we have a 95% conversion rate. No-one has ever used it to ask where an order has got to.
With Whos On, you can set the system to "Busy" when as few as one punter is engaged in a chat, so no-one else can log on.
We find it's a useful extension to our already successful and well used phone support.
Although sometimes it does feel like we are a counselling service rather than a commercial business
