    Laptop Spec

I've had my laptop stolen, insurance company are paying up, but it seems an ideal time for me to add to what they are offering me and get a better spec as it was a couple of years old. Buying a laptop or a desktop seems to get more complicated by the minute, now there seems to be a dual core and cored duos. Sheesh, i'm headshot.

It's a 3rd machine, so doesn't need to run NASA, my missus will mainly use it for surfing and email, BUT i would like it to be specced higher than what she will need, so if i need to take it out with me or we go away etc. it will still run fine.

I hate cheap crap, it needs to work for 3 years and i guess £700-£1000 would be what i want to pay. Anyone recently bought one or offer any advice. Looking around just blows my mind, too much choice.

    Cheers for any help.

Samsung R700 gets good reviews for the money at the moment if running office apps and not heavy duty games etc. as uses some quality components and they are trying to stand toe-to-to with the box shifters.

yes vista - but I was surprised and its pretty good. My wife mainly uses it for spending money even faster but it runs actinic no problem so its a good back up if my other one goes down. I got 4gb ram so it flies.

              Hi Lee
If you do not like Vista (does anybody?) then you need to go to an online builder. Dell still offer XP, we have 7 laptops - the earliest one is 5 years old and all are going strong.
For the price you are looking to pay, you will get a great machine and they deliver fairly quickly.
We put in an order for a new server, last Wednesday, due to be delivered 7th April, arrived yesterday!
              Regards
              Howard

I've got an inspiron as well which you can get with xp. I only got the xps because of the light weight.

Get yourself an Asus Eee and spend the rest on Travis (he must be into Lego by now?)

Lee i drag this laptop around with me everywere, its even been down the stairs (on its own)

Dell inspiron, cheap as chips but go's on and on, the only thing is you have to wait for it (when you order), but believe me vista aint bad, it has its faults but the sp1 has fixed most of the issues people moan about.

i run v8 and v9 on this laptop, it only has 2gb but photoshop and illustrator work with out any problems.

Interesting how time (and cost) has changed our perception.

You know you now have to find a model you can surf down the stairs with you on top don't you?
