What's up with the firefox load order???

Just tried my new site with firefox and something odd is happening.

I use a live chat service, which seems to sometimes cause a delay of 5-15seconds (I have the firefox page timer installed), but despite the chat code being the very last thing in the page source code before the </body> tag it seems to wait until it has finished connecting to that before loading the images.

So I end up with an imageless page (or at least some images) for 5-15 seconds while it sits there contacting the chat server (which I'm only actualy using for the stats anyway), then firefox finally fills in the images.

So what's up with that? Why doesn't it load the images first (ie. in the order things are in the code)

    correct. scripts are parsed first.

this is a feature of the gecko engine, as i'm aware. it makes loading pages faster.

i'd consider dropping the heavy script, and finding some normal stats package.

Web browsers load the code first, then the images. Is that the problem you're seeing?
