    Ie & Ff

OK been looking into various stats, horrible things, you can spend ages looking at them and comming up with all sorts of answers anyway on i found interesting and wondered if anyone else has noticed.

IE has always been the main player for obvious reasons, but of late i have noticed FF seems to be gaining ground, although slowly it is

Question has anyone else noticed that FF is becoming more popular my stats are showing more than 15% of visitors are now using FF, IE is now down to 80% as other browsers make up the gap.

Just curious thats all as FF always used to be around the 10% mark

Still about 10% for me, reason for the hike is probably you and your friends visiting as you've been making quite a few changes of late.

I'd go a little further- the stats on one of my sites show FF at over 18% compared to just over 10% this time last year. The site has grown considerably in terms of visits over this period and considering it's targeted at mothers and housewives predominantly (i.e non tech-head users, no offence intended) I would have expected IE to gain ground, but the opposite has happened.
Also worth noting that Safari is there at 4%, and iPhones and Playstation Portables are making their first appearance.
It does seem to me that FF popularity is spreading- several friends whose computer's I've repaired over the last 6 months have asked about it.

The latest round of iTunes updates bundles the windows version ... it suddenly appeared on Mrs Jont's PC - the one with the iPod connected and charging - so this figure will start to raise over this year for sure.

Same here, about a 5% swing to FF from IE in the last 6 months. Guess it will vary depending on what market you are in though, I have a personal site that has 80% Firefox users.

the differences in your ff/ie stats are for simple reasons: your demographic.

slashdot.org for example gets more ff/moz/safari than ie, on certain sections.

this is becasue their target audience, is predominantly 'in the know' tech peeps, that have come to an educated descision about what browser they use. firefox is smarter and faster.

the beta of ff3 i'm using is lightning fast on javascript, 10 times faster than anything ie has to offer.

if your demographic includes noobs, then your ie stats will be higher. niche items are firefox fodder, common items are ie fodder.

...your store is non tech, and so this will most likely be the norm, for a lot of sites.

stands to reason however, that ie6 would drop in favour of 7, and shortly, the same thing will happen to firefox, as version 3 hits the desktop.
