how to find someones ISP

ok, this is waaaaaaay off topic, but maybe someone can help. There is a company that has my email address and they keep spamming me, they just won't stop despite me having emailed them many many times.

This isn't 'normal' spam, it is a genuine company who have my email address because I ordered something from them once but now they won't stop sending me spam (they did eventually take me of their snail-mailing list after I kept tearing up their sales letters and mailing them back in their freepost envelopes).

So does anyone know how I can find out who their ISP is so I can complain?

Examine the header/Meta information (called internet headers) within the email to identify the initial routing emails server that it was sent from, then you can identify the company behind this service and email them accordingly.

Also complain to the Information Commissioner Office http://www.ico.gov.uk/ as they have to offer you the option of being removed from their mailing list and to comply promptly.

If they're sending the email from their own server then report the emails as spam to various companies like spamcop. The best way to deal with people who behave like this is to get their emails blocked.

If they're sending them from an email service then report it to them. They are usually pretty fast as the don't want their email servers identified with spam.

No, they are just jerks. they are fairly well known for this...

ok, in htis case it's www.tollon.net, but will they really care? It's the ISP who's more likely to have more clout...

Don't forget - it depends on whether they are sending mail via `their domain SMTP or their ISP SMTP

Several courses of action

1 complain to their host
2 complain to their ISP
3 report them to SPAMCOP
4 simply block them using spam filter (blacklist)

I swear by www.dnsstuff.com for all dns/ip stuff

As Jo says - they may be sending email via there web host, not their ISP. All my clients use my webservices for emailing so you may be surprised. I've had to have "gentle words" with clients in the past after complaints sent to me about spam email.

Keep faxing them (with a lot of blank pages between the text) with the request to be removed... do this every 30 mins until they confirm you have been removed.

I hate spammers.

or sign up their phone number to many of these online crank/humour lines. Mr Angry et all. Will soon annoy them.

Publish their email address in several places online for the SPAM bots to pick up... etc

There are loads and loads of techniques to annoy them, however perhaps a phone call to speak to someone at the other end should be the first port of call. Take the moral high ground first
