    I agree

Actually the moderation bit has been mentioned, errrm once or twice, but at the the end of the day, i see alot of these come from china, block their ip ranges from the server, simple as, and yes i know you can use a proxy e.t.c but the more barriers you put in place the less likely they are to persue and will bugger off to another forum that is easier pickings

I hadn't even read any of the posts when I posted that, tbh
I just saw the ream of new posts in the list and felt the urge to comment (not like me, eh? )

Stop weekend sign ups...moderate ALL sign ups... (or give someone 'weekend priviledges' to moderate the weekend ones)
I think we're all agreed though that something needs doing

The latest stint (cjawcrusher512 ) appears to be more malicious than spam - no links no keywords.
Perhaps just stop sign-ups over weekends.

    *sigh*

and this morning...we have yet ANOTHER one posting on every thread he/she/it can find.

If we're not going to have some sort of charging for new members, then moderate new member sign ups.
don't allow ANY posting until new membership has been approved and, if this takes time, allow the new, unmoderated member to search the forums in the meantime.

I'm betting we'll get fewer 'noob' questions/posts that way too because they'll have found their own answers in the forum first while waiting to be approved.

Until I switched to Actinic, I was with a software package which charged you for every support ticket and whose forum was never read, let alone moderated by staff. As a result, that forum is next to useless and users are left to sink or swim. I jumped ship and landed here, tg.

I know this isn't Actinic support, but Actinic people DO read what's being posted here and I'd rather they were able to spend time doing that, rather than having to delete spammers and their multi posts.

Paying a tenner for access to this hugely valuable resource would be peanuts imo.

As much as I agree with the concept of paying to be a member I don't really see the powers at Actinic going that route - especially with all the free open-source software on the market. From a PR and marketing point of view it would be an uphill struggle and another arrow for the open-source companies to promote the "free forum". Actinic would essentially be making everyone pay for support (the forum is not officially support but real life is a different matter) which is not so good if it is to sort bugs and other such issues that should be solved for free.

I think we should have a Pre-Sales forum where you can post either immediately or after 24 hours.

The main forums could be limited to Actinic registered users who have their purchase checked before being allowed posting rights.

How about having new members register and then be unable to post for first 72 hours using their password, but new Actinic purchasers could use the first six digits of their actinic key for imediate access to post untill the 72 hours has passed

That way its time consuming for spammers but if you buy actinic you get immediate use.

To report spam you have to wait 1 minute in between each report. To add spam, you only need to wait 10 seconds in between. Hmm that sounds like painting the forth bridge.

I think there should be a Pre-Sales forum where posts are as they are now and then the normal 'user' forums where posters need to confirm their Actinic key before being allowed tro post in
Im a member of a forum where you need to buy a £25000 car to get in so £10 is nothing or an actinic users forum where you get a registration code when you buy software.

The thing is that spammers are finding it ever harder to find open forums to post thier links as one of two things happen:

    1. the forum closes
    2. Anti spam measures are enforced ie you pay to get in.

This forum is a target and it was a no bariner that this was going to happen especially after details of the poor moderation were posted - HELLO spammers can read - Im turning off my email notification now and its a waste of time checking for new posts so bye
