How does Actinic compare to other carts?

Before I started with Actinic I had a good look around and settled on Actinic because other succesful sites I knew had been built with it, and slso I had a nose round the forum and thought I would be OK if ever I got stuck. So all in all I'm really happy with Actinic.

Anyway, just recently, our company is looking to outsource the SEO to another company. Two of the companies I've spoken to have groaned when I mentioned actinic. When I asked what the problem was, they didn't give much away, only to say there was better shopping carts out there.

The main reason I actually went with Actinic was because it was supposedly SEO friendly, so any ideas why these SEO types may be turning their noses up at it?

The reason many SEO companies don't like workling with Actinic is because they can't just have easy access to make changes by themselves directly on your server - the changes need to be made in Actinic and uploaded.

I'm no SEO expert but the general consensus is that Actinic is very good with the basic SEO out of the box. Your own specific content thought is a different story, as it is with any other cart.

most companies seem to use webceo or IBP
these programmes allow you to tweak on a page, see the expected results then just upload and overwrite whats on the server

but as duncan pointed out actinic is offline,
so i presume they would need to tweak decide what needs doing and then apply to actinic and then upload

not as easy as the static pages on most sites

As said above - Actinic is outside the capabilities of most SEO companies due to the fact that pages are compiled on your pc rather than held on the server where they can be modified remotely. When they say that there are better carts out there what they really mean is that they want you to use one that is easy for them.

Actinic is great SEO wise (the only reason i stick with it) what you need to find is an SEO company that will teach you how to do it yourself so it becomes second nature when building your site.

ok, as for the seo company needing direct access to actinic, wouldn't this just be to change meta tags? I spent a lot of time ananlyzing the keywords and am pretty sure I've got them straight, so don't really want to pay somebody to do that.

Isn't the main part of seo building quality backlinks? In which case they wouldn't even need access to the site.

NO- meta tags mean nothing - the seo comapny will want access to the page content if they are doing the job properly

Knew you'd say that. Does that mean the seo company will write for us?

So many seo firms out there, and obviously some are more trustworthy than others, I just want to be sure we get the best deal and results.

Any recommendations?

Indeed - no point having back links if they have nothing to point to.

The thing to always remember with SEO is that it is not a single task - it is a multitude of things which go into the blend and come out the other side like a lovely cake!
