I used an old Compaq E500 with Ubuntu, runs like a dream and no problem finding drivers, Ubuntu sorts it all out itself, even a Netgear PCMCIA wireless card that windows had trouble with. If only IBM had never linked up with Microsoft.

I would use one of the resellers of refurbished laptops. Try retuk or similar.
