    Firms 'give out' customer details

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7468491.stm

    Sheesh. Who are these people?

I think i realised this by the amount of crap i get through the post.

We make it a big point that we never disclose any persons address details, except for deliveries. we take a different look on this side of things, that is it cost us money to get these people and we sure as hell aint going to give it away.

This is a typical part of a business model that alot of firms follow, short terms gains, selling DB they have to generate some cash, but in reality the information they have passed over will likely end up in the hands of there competitors at sometime. Spend a fortune on advertising then give your clients away

It's yet another 'survey' by an internet security company. I'd say all 'survey' stories from commercial organisations are really just PR fluff and not worth paying much attention too.

I agree - This is yet another company with good PR to Media relations. Their PR firm is obviously good at getting Copy published - Gets the company a link from the BBC site and a mention in he news (archives).

Reminds me of some of the tosh that was put about by 'safety consultants' during the Y2K run-up.
