You learn something new every day

Please don't laugh, but I've just found the simplest of simple solutions to something which has been dogging my PC for months.

In that time, the darned thing (a Sony superbeast) has had a memory upgrade, hard drive has been re-partitioned, all manner of tweaks have been hurled at it. None made any difference. I searched online for a solution, nothing worked.

I still couldn't get My Computer to launch unless I was prepared to wait, like a whole minute. Various progs eg Dreamweaver, Paint Shop Pro, Cute FTP, Photoshop, all hung forever before deigning to let me get at them. The dreaded "server busy; switch applications" error was everywhere.

Then finally, after putting on XP SP3 and still finding no improvement, I found this page. Turns out it was a tiny, tiny feature called Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) that just needed to be disabled.

Forgive me for wittering on, it's just that I am so thrilled to have a super fast, fully functioning PC back again, I had to share it. I'm sure this was a well known solution but it took me until today to find it.

Thanks for sharing that Jules. I've just disabled the WIA service on my PC and the improvement is quite amazing. Great tip, thanks.
