    the misunderstood asus eeepc

i got myself one of these little buggers, an eeepc 900. it was on offer, with a 20 gb of storage, 1bg ram, 1024x600 res screen, so i snapped it up.

i dropped the rubbishy xandros linux pre-install and opted for ubuntu. I now develop Actinet on mine.

how many other people have an eeepc, and what do you use yours for?

any clues how to create a ubuntu install on flash drive, gabe.

I want to dump xandros but fall at the above, can't find a decent how to.

      http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

i used this tool, on a nearby windows computer. it downloads an iso of a distro you select (or you can use your own iso), and makes a bootable usb key out of it.

      i used a spare 1gb sd card.

after your bootable usb key is made, chuck it in the eeepc and hold 'escape' while booting. this will bring up a boot menu and you can boot from your usb stick.

i used this iso with the tool:
      http://www.eeebuntu.org/

      here is a direct link:
      ftp://www.eeebuntu.org/../pub/eeebuntu-rc2.iso

      have fun.

I like the look of the 901 or acer aspire one.

I don't really know what I'll use them for just nice to have one in my bag lol

What else you got in there then? A picture is optional.

I'm sure it would be at least PG rated with all the rubbish in there!

I use my 701 all the time when travelling connected to my 3G Huawei modem - mainly for browsing and email - not design the screens too small for me. I also use it with logmein to work on my main development pc desktop whilst out and about.

I'm using the advanced KDE and installed a couple of apps but not being a linux buff I'm still building up courage to bin xandros and go the ubuntu route.

its a dinky little gadget that lets you use a full browser and email on the go. mine now runs actinic, and also plays counterstrike.

and it fits in my handbag.
