    Anti Virus Software

I have read a few threads on the forum regarding anitivirus software but none seem up to date, mine - Norton is about to expire.

Does anyone have any views or up to date info on which is best at the moment etc, I don't buy any pc mags so have not seen any reviews etc.

    Many Thanks

Kaspersky and AVG have my vote ... AVG 8 http://free.avg.com/ is available as a freebie and works very well indeed.

I used to swear by Norton but have now ditched it because its such a processor eater and slows down everything so much. I now use AVG and the standard windows firewall - in VISTA.

If you are using XP then I suggest a separate firewall as well.

Kaspersky all the way - far better than Norton etc.

Kaspersky Internet Security Suite includes the anti virus, firewall and lots more. It works well but it can be daunting for the non technical.

I seem to remember Kaspersky being pretty good "out of the box", ie easy to install if you just let it get on with it itself. I have had no need to customise it, which is perhaps where is gets more challenging (but probably no worse than any other).

I use KAS AV7 with ZAPro - no problems - much faster than when I was using Norton.

Zonealarm for the firewall and AVG for anti-virus.

Avoid Norton like the plague. It seems to cause more problems than it sorts.

Norton 360 is meant to be far better than previous releases but still lagging behind the others - especially in terms of system resources and detection rates.

Biggest problem by far with Norton 360 (at least the last time I used it) was that you couldn't scan individual files or folders, so if you downloaded a file and wanted to check it, you had to scan the whole PC
