030 and 033 geographic phone numbers

Has anyone signed up for any of these new 030 and 033 telephone numbers ? - any thoughts about them?
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ofcom has recently introduced 03 numbers as an alternative to the much hated 0870 and 0871 number ranges.

The new 03 numbers, like all 08 numbers, are ’UK-wide’ as they are not limited to a particular local area like 01 and 02 numbers.

Calls to these numbers cost the same as calls to ordinary geographic numbers (starting 01 or 02) and are included in contract mobile phone calling plans.

033 – These numbers can be used by anyone.
030 - These numbers are for use by charities, public bodies and not for profit organisations only.

Ofcom have provided a guidance note on who may use 030 numbers – if you are in any doubt please see

According to the document they seem to be restricted to government departments or the NHS.

      This document is more comprehensive:

IMO the only numbers worth going for are still 0800 and 0845, although I think even these are less popular than they were.

Dont like 0800 or 0845 as like most we use our mobiles with huge amounts of free calls, none of which are usable from a mobile to these.

Perhaps the answer is simply to give an 0800/0845 number for people phoning from a distance in the UK, and an "ordinary number" (usually the number that the 0800/0845 is forwarded to) for mobile phoners (plus from overseas).
