Too British - Are they serious

    OK

Seems this has been around a little while, but its the first i have heard of it.

i received an email and thougt to start with it was another of these joke emails that appear in my inbox from time to time and then i realised it was not a joke. To be honest i dont think it supprised me either, nothing does with the UK anymore, what am i talking about well heres the email

The world-famous Red Arrows have been banned from appearing at the 2012 London Olympics because they are deemed 'too British'. Organisers of the event say that the Arrows military background might be 'offensive' to other countries taking part in the Games. The display team have performed at more than 4000 events worldwide, but the Department of Culture, Media and Sport have deemed the display team 'too militaristically British.' Red Arrows pilots were said to be 'outraged', as they had hoped to put on a truly world class display for the Games, something which had never been seen before. Being axed from a British-based event for being 'too British' is an insult - the Arrows are a symbol of Britain.
The Red Arrows have been excellent ambassadors for British overseas trade, as they display their British-built Hawk aircraft all over the world.
The Arrows performed a short fly past in 2005 when the winning bid was announced, but their flypast at the Games was to have been truly spectacular. It is to be hoped that common sense prevails.

I can sort of understand the military aspect to it, but these planes are not exactly fighters and coloured as such, if you did not know of them you would probably not know they were operated by military personel

So that's the end of this thread. One hour - is that a record?

And the Hawk is a trainer, not a fighter. There is a ground-attack variant, but it too expensive and slow to be taken seriously, so it only gets sold when backed with development aid sweetners from the UK government.

Surely you keep a couple of tins of beans in the kite bag just in case.
