For the intermediate shelves where no need for a full height pallet we simply used 8x4 block board from local timber merchants

          Pan

Take a look at Rapid Racking for cheap but very rubust and versatile rack storeage etc.

          see rapidracking

I would echo what jonty said - if you sort out your storage up front it will make some much difference to how you operate not only from an effiecency point of view but also keeping your stock in good good condition and being able to find it.

If you can't afford to invest in proper storage etc I would think seriously about moving into a warehouse.

          Cheers

Rapid Racking has been a godsend to us, you can get everything from the most diy to complete warehouse set ups. We kitted our office/store out with low level pallet racking about a year ago and it has made finding things so much easier. And if you end up like us and outgrowing it within 6 months, it can easily be dismantled and moved, although it's a killer!! What i would say from experience is look for the warehouse that gives you growing room and not as we did first time around and regret it.

                These are excellent (48x24x72 inches):

Carry 500lb per shelf, only about £35 each from Costco (get a couple of friends to go with you if you don't want a hernia).

LOL, that made me chuckle. There is nothing funnier at Costco than seeing someone get all excited and over the top with their purchases, only to wheel it all outside and find it will not fit in their Fiat Punto, in fact not one item they have bought will do so.

LOL, no kidding I have witnessed a husband have to leave wife and kids at Costco to get everything in (and presumably pick them up later........)

Tell-tale signs of small mounds of packaging around the car park makes me smile.

We got half of our racking from Costco and the other half from RapidRacking, Costco are cheaper but they tend to sell packs whereas you can get any combinations of stuff from RR.

I got left behind once because the fish tank I had just purchased was too big for the car and all four of us, I'd bought a new laptop by the time I was collected and had my eye on a whole load of new office furniture as well, oddly enough it hasn't happened again.

                              Regards,
