i wonder what the thinking is behind £10, its such a derisory amount it will cost more than £10 per head to collect it and receipt it.

If i were considering attending (which i'm not as it seems to be targetted at users rather than developers) i wouldn't mind paying it, but i wonder if the charge is something that is normal at these types of events, or whether there is something behind the scenes that means you are insured or something daft like like if you attend. or if it can be written off by actinic as a loss making event if they charge to attend.

anyway its good to see actinic being pro active and putting on such an event as it was one of the ideas thrown about in the early days of discussing a user group and the type of events to go with it.

its abit cheeky to charge speakers to attend though

The main reason for a fee is that from experience a registration fee, however small, will reduce the number of no-shows significantly. As the numbers are limited (and I have no idea whether things will be over or under-subscribed), it significantly reduces the risk of lots of empty seats in the case that we are over-subscribed.

It's very much a two way event, hence the fee is nominal.

      Hope that makes sense.

I'm sure most of the moaning about the tenner is in jest, but just a suggestion to Chris B - why not offer a rebate against Actinic annual cover to offset any charge.
That way, you fullfill the purpose of discouraging time wasters, and the peeps that do attend don't feel they are out of pocket!
Personally, I'd have no problem shelling out a tenner, although I don't fancy making any slide presentations.

Maybe an actinic goodie bag when you arrive? Some old V6 CD's as coasters or stress balls for when things aren't going too well. I think the offer of a free lunch and a free peak at V10 is far more likely to draw people in than the fact you've paid a tenner.

Can you imagine someone up North who doesn't fancy going on the day, suddenly realising hang on a minute i have paid a tenner to go, let me go put £80 of petrol in my car or buy that £100 train ticket so I have not wasted my tenner and can attend.

I wonder if there's something about people in the internet game that means they can't do linear thinking and end up going off on a tangent.

Off topic, but when did the forum ever stay on topic? Kind of proves my point though.

Of course it is, it just seemed such a bizarre amount and the way it was presented.

Being invited to attend the v9.0.3 testing day I booked time off work, rescheduled jobs and paid for tickets for an event the following day to make the most of the haul South.

I was contacted the Friday before the event on Monday advising the event was off due to lack of interest. Not no shows but lack of interest. As you can imagine that threw a massive spanner in the works, lost the booking fee for the tickets and used valuable holidays for no reason.

I hope the conference tenner is refundable if cancelled!!

How many conversations do you take part in off the forum that do not go off on a tangent and talk about different things? I've never been part of one, if it's on the same subject for more than 10 minutes, it's usually the most boring conversation (sermon) i'd ever dread to hear. Chats online happen in the same way as the real world IMO, different people bring different views and ideas, it will never stay on some strict straight line, only robots could do that i'd have thought.

It's a thread about the Actinic conference and it has drifted on to the £10 charge you need to pay in order to attend. It's hardly off on a tangent (until now lol), but I do know what you mean.

trouble is actinic towers is not a easy place to reach using trains if you live north of london and probably the west as well

takes a bloody long time from anywhere outside the SE/S, I'd say!
Took me over 4 hours to do it from here (N(ish) Lincs) via train(s)

If I were jont, though, I'd have been claiming back any expenses etc too

Read Chris Barling's original post. Its not at Actinic Towers, its at The Norton Park hotel, near Winchester.

takes just as long to get there though

I think chris(A) was referring to the 9.0.3 test day though which was at AT
