    Tell you what, I'll do the announcement bit again, say Friday the 18th December? if someone else handles the categories, the encouragement for votes spam tactics and vote counting?

    hmm i think the new mods should come up with something, and they can even make use of the built in voting, maybe a first round of voting then create a top three list then set up a poll with the names and then peoples can click and vote for the said peeps

        PS Kathy - your woeful efforts bear into insignificance compared to one user. His/her site could well be built in V8 and launched in V10. You have second place nailed down though for sure.

                  It's not really possible to set this up on the forum as far as i can work out. There could be a poll setup for each category, but each point would need about 200 people as the options (maybe more).

                  It would be possible via a short list for example, so each award had say 5-10 nominees maximum. That would be viable, but how do you collect nominees and give people privacy when they do it?

                  I think last year Gabe had a form and a database collating the votes, or maybe they were collated from an email created by the form etc. It was anonymous IIRC.

                  If you want it setup and you can think of a way of doing it via the forum that i have missed, let me know i'll gladly set up whatever i can for you.

                    10 nominees is the maximum, i've just checked, if you can somehow shortlist down to 10 options per award, it's possible via the forum .

                      I think we're kind of buggered on this.

                      Ideally we'd allow a week for nominations and then another week for voting. There's really only a week left until Christmas and it'll take us that long to agree on the categories, how we're going to do it and put it all in place.

                      Possibly something for the new year?

                      PS. I think it would be a good idea when we do get around to doing this that we email ALL the members of the forum three times to get them involved:

                      1st email to ask for nominations
                      2nd email to announce the nominations and ask for votes
                      3rd email to announce the winners

                      We probably need to get Actinic to approve this and check it's allowed under the forum rules.

                        I don't think the categories are so hard to decide on, none of us chose them last year and i think they were fine, for ease you'd just roll with those again I guess. Because of the limit to 10 choices the nominations is always going to be the sticking point IMO, whether you do it now or in the new year. How do you get them and who collates it? If you're thinking of emailing all members, it could become a huge job.

                        I think it needs to be done without actinic involved personally, getting into large email campaigns is something they probably won't want to get involved in. If they do, it then becomes something they probably need to run and endorse, i doubt they have the time.

                        We as a community need to do this with what we have available IMO, but let's see what others think also and maybe actinic can be approached.

                            All forum members are given the option to allow / disallow emails from the administrators. It seems reasonable to email those that have said it's OK on this.

                            I'd rather we did involve as many forum members as we can rather than just limiting to the few regulars. It seems like a good opportunity to remind people about the forum and give them an opportunity to nominate or vote for someone who's helped them out. Make it a bit more inclusive to everyone and not just a joke for the in-crowd. That's partially why I'd limit the award categories to the more sensible options.

                            Yes, Actinic should be aware and involved. They started the idea off and then went quiet on the idea. I doubt if they'd object.
