Compress Video

I have about an hours (26GB) of CCTV video evidence that the local Police want to have a scour thru', it is saved as an avi file and is viewable in realplayer, is there someway that it can be compressed as last time they turned up with a 1GB stick, ending up with them sat in shop taking notes from the video.

You can try converting/resampling it with Nero or similar otherwise you'll have to get the kettle on again.

what about some sort of mp4 converter? I have one which converts DVDs for ipod (DVD Shrink, it's called, but there are others) perhaps this might compress sufficiently?

Why not suggest they go buy a USB hard drive, then just plug it in and copy the whole thing across in a couple of minutes.

Remotely Installed Microsoft's Media Encoder and trashed pc (long stroll back to work and uninstalling) so have given up, if they want it they will have to provide a portable hard drive. Thanks for everyone's help.

Can you not use logmein or similar and let them watch it on your pc from the cop shop.
