amazon universal wishlist is undeniably cool

http://www.amazon.com/wishlist/vendor-button/

it lets you craft a link, that adds any product to an offsite wishlist. essentially bypassing the need to add this feature to actinic.

comments? anyone used this? hyper evaluate.

Wouldn't bookmarking the URL be the same?

A wish list is only useful (in my eyes) for the site in question. So you can go back to it, refine it and then add them all to the cart when ready?

Is that right? am i missing the point?

well, it is a bookmarking service, but in this case, the script used lets you set more data, such as the price, name reference and image url of the product.

their list also lets users do all of the other things that wishlists should, like purchased notifications, and priorities,

What do amazon gain from this?
Would it be for information on products they are not selling, so they know to sell it?

Does look cool tho, having all the items you want in 1 place.

i think they gain a greater chance of you buying things from amazon. since their navigation and search boxen, are on the same place.

a bed reason for shop owners with higher prices, to use this feature.

Your Amazon.com Wish List can be made private or public. A "Private" list setting means your friends and family will not be able to see your list, even if they search for it. A "Public" list setting means friends and family can search for your Wish List and find out what you'd really like to get. If you would like to change your list setting, click the "Make this list public" or "Make this list private" button on the left-hand side of your Wish List
This I think may be another way forward in terms of people asking for specific gifts rather than people wasting cash. I noticed this christmas that purchases were being made from sites where people had posted what they wanted for christmas - the item on the site was linked to our website and when purchased the item was ticked off the list.

Great idea - obviously Amazon are trying to do something similar. I suspect Google Base may follow soon

A quick question more aimed at Mal who has implemented the code already.

Did you have to customise the code for each product, or can you just drop the code into a page layout and the script picks the product name up itself from your page name?

Might be interested if it is the latter.

Many thanks

Jason

Just throw it in. Looking at how it works it will only be suitable for single product pages IMO.

they might use it to inform the Amazon marketplace sellers of items people are looking for

we started getting emails from amazon recently about certain products that we had listed in the past

I have looked at amazon recently, even listed some stuff. But i have a few issues with it.

1) Most stuff i cant list in the correct catagories because they are restricted
2) if i find the same product it normally has all the wrong details
3) Most of the postage charges are wrong - yet amazon pro's can change their postal charges? which means mine are more expensive?
4) I cant list a product that is not on Amazon (maybe im doing something wrong)

So im not sure how they intend to attract new sellers, or have i completely missed the something

All that said, the wishlist tool is pretty good, i would be interested to see how they intend to use it.

Sound like a typical list of Amazon problems.

1. You can't do anything about this.
2. Seller Central sellers can edit the product info (don't remember if Pro Sellers can)
3. Adjust your product prices to reflect the Amazon postage charge (thats why lots of sencond hand books are only 10p).
4. Seller Central sellers can add products (don't remember if Pro Sellers can)

1.for some categories you need their standard selling account but for some other a different account (cant remember the name)

some categories you can list using both but the second has a lot of benefits. you need to talk to their support
4. we have issues with it as well. their listing process is not the easiest.
3. if you have that different account you can set up your delivery charges (like we have)
