    Outlook Corrupt Profile Lost Emails

Yes another one of those headaches on Friday. Desperately grasping at straws now to recover a few emails so thought I would see if there is a whizzkid out there.

On Friday for some unknown reason (Well the only thing we had done was to add an email account), we realised that all of our downloaded emails were not showing in the Inbox. In fact we could not find them anywhere, as we searched in case they were being moved directly into Junk or Deleted mails. It was very frustrating seeing those "downloading" X No of messages only for them to disappear.

Restoring the Outlook.pst file made no difference, however we managed to get Outlook working correctly again by starting a new profile (so maybe the profile was corrupted).

However, those emails on Friday are still nowhere to be seen (and I did a lot of emailing on Friday!). Have used a demo Stellar Phoenix Outlook PST Repair tool but it has not found them.

Are these emails lost forever - where on earth did it download them? Is there any way at all that we can look at some sort of database of the emails to see if they still exist somewhere?

I don't have any idea as regards where Outlook has dropped them but doesn't your host supply a webmail account at all? I use Outlook myself and leave a copy of all emails on the server (setting this within Outlook) for three days after the emails are deleted from Outlook so that if need be I can access the emails through my browser.

Actinic is the host and I will be giving them a call as this has highlighted that the Webmail is not working even though it is ticked in the Control Panel. Yes it would have been good to have left the emails on the server and yes I did think of that but unfortunately only with the benefit of hindsight.

Lost in the ether probably but...

Has the 'currupt' profile completely gone? Have you tried searching for other pst files across the PC?

No we kept both the corrupt and new profiles so I could always access it if I wanted to although it only holds the account settings. The pst file is the same as the original one, not changed.

Between the time when this occurred and the time when we got Outlook working again, emails continued to download (it even told us the number of kb's downloading), so I would have hoped that they are sitting somewhere on the PC - I was hoping for some way of accessing the emails in a database rather like looking at the Actinic orders in Access??

Or I am being too optimistic.

I have posted the problem with the webmail at a different place for clarity as a different issue:

            http://community.actinic.com/showthr...546#post259546

It seems that the webmail not working isnt a simple issue as you will see.

Why do you always find things that don't work when there is a major problem?!!

sadly i think its just life, as we all often say - there's the benefit of hindsight.

Personally i think it is crucial to keep email on the server for at least 7 days, longer if possible. I also hive all my mail off to googlemail too as they give huge space to store stuff too.
