    Recognise anyone?? (note the author)

    Building a successful online community

Interesting (and, from our POV, slightly amusing) reading, wouldn't you say?

Thanks for the comments, running any online presence is difficult. However I think the Actinic community is a great example of some of the rewards a forum can bring.

Personally though, I prefer Gabes breakdown.

Hmmm... Wonder what I am? Not a newbie, maybe not a hard-core fanatic; must be a casual user.

Edit: just read Gabe's analysis. That make me a user (phew!)

I particularly liked the reference to "limelight hogging natural performers"

I thought this line was rather telling:
"Nothing puts new visitors off quicker than a slap down after asking a basic question."

Maybe the whole article should be a sticky on the forum! LOL

members tend to fall into three distinct groups. These are newbies, casual users and hard-core fanatics
Missed one - the forum rapists who steal what they can and then demand help (usually other designers or people getting paid for skills they dont have)

Benny Boy, it'd be no fun if the words `Goat Point` and `Relegation` didnt find their way into yer next article.

Mrs Jont used to do this with Dave Spikey on his forum .... they would post a word each week and he would mouth it to camera when introduced by Jimmy Carr at the start of 8 out of 10 cats! Oh the fun to be had
