My Boys Homework - Teacher wrong ?

OK my 7 year old did his homework this weekend and today i notice a correction from the teacher. I think the teacher has it wrong

The questions are similar but this is one

"How many 2cm pieces of tape can you cut from a 10cm piece tape"

Ciaran wrote 5

this has been corrected to 5cm, i have replied in his comments book that these have been corrected and are now wrong.

To me the answer was obvious, however my wife questioned me about it saying they were wrong, knowing i checked them but when i asked her to read the question and answer it she also said it has been corrected incorrectly.

I guess my question is, how do others read this sort of question

I read the intent of the question as an attempt to ascertain the quantity of pieces, not a measure of length of the pieces, hence 5 would be the correct answer.

Recently I witnessed a teacher writing the word "shoping" on the white board. She stood back, added another p, then rubbed it out, and left it as "shoping".

Now a whole class of 30 seven year olds believes that's how you spell what you do when you go out to the shops and spend money

Thats exactly how i read the question, they did it with another aswell.

"how many 10 litre buckets can you get from a 50 litre barrel" he answered 5 they corrected it to 5l

To get the teacher's answers, the questions would have to be:

"If you cut a 10cm piece tape into 5 equal pieces, how long would each piece be?"

and

"If you divide 50 litres of water equally into 10 buckets, how many litres would be in each bucket?"

Maybe its me & a foggy memory but back in the day my teachers would have asked.

Says it all - I remember when I was doing my Highers I physically had to prove the teacher wrong - in that a wooden box-shaped thing with a door on the front is called a 'cupboard' - not a 'cuboard'.
