Best thing you can do Daz is offer to leave the delivery someplace for him to pick it up. (not ideal in many cases though I'd imagine)

The motor trade is so customer driven now. Customers used to put their cars in for a service for three days now they drop it off saying `I'll need it ready by three as I'm getting my hair done`.

      hmm.
not such a good night last night,
one driver set out at 22:00, got back at 13:00 having only got part way round. seems like it was devon, cornwall that tripped him up.
he struggled down the m5, only to get so far, struggled off the motorway, went round the roundabout, back on the other carriage way and then struggled back home
two more never even got out the door (mainly because the first driver was the one that was bringing the parts to him)

          Cheers Darren.
It's a really nice setup after 23 yrs of doing the spare part delivery service, we've been going to the dealers night after night, we rarely see the actual dealers, but if we come across problems, ram raiders, open doors, lights on, vehicles parked where they shouldn't be and so on, we have the dealers home phone numbers, local police numbers (if they answer) and do what's neccessary, net result, we look after them, they look after us, and when the weather turns nasty, they nearly all understand that 99.98% of the time, we do exactly what we promise to do, and the odd 0.02% late or non delivery is down to accidents of severe weather,
its a nice setup, and half of the drivers have more than 14yrs service, thats difficult for a lot of companies to claim, and even more difficult when you think they drive only at night, and on their own.

            Oh no, not again...

6" snow all across the county, driving to work was treacherous, not a single road gritter or snow plough in site. Absolutely ridiculous response from the Councils in this weather. They can get to 'France' when they want their taxes at the end of the month.

why do people moan about gritters all the time, some stupid bloody woman was moaning the other week they had not gritted a metal foot bridge and how discusting it was.

Personally i fear more for the to the enviroment It kills the plant life down the side of the roads and spoils the soil and sea life when all this salt gets washed in into it.

I kind of agree that too much emphasis is put on the Councils anyway. When I lived in germany, we all put our winter tyres on in the autumn and kept them on until spring. We also had snow chains for when the weather was really bad.

Here, though, we get unusually heavy snow and all people can do is complain that the councils should have been better prepared and kept all the roads open. What happened to personal responsibility?

Lol - I think there's much more pressing issues for the environment than salt. Logically thinking, after watching a BBC program on the subject last week, where does the salt come from in the first place?

Health and Safety go banging on and on about this and that - they stop kids playing with balls in the park, but they're happy to not send out these gritters which are designed for these conditions. Instead, they'd rather sacrifice our people's lives so they can take home their bumper pay packet at the end of the day.

                  -----

Might need to reiterate the fact. Here.

Ironically enough, this was the same day I passed 3 cars in the ditch - this fatality was only ~60 miles away

im not saying we dont use salt, the last quote i heard was over 25,000 tons per day thats alot of salt.

Besides tax payers would moan if we had 5000 gritters/snow ploughs sitting around just incase something happenend i know i would

Kind of agree with you on that one - but what do they say about the thousands of ambulances, fire engines and coppers sitting around just in case something happens? Same debate could go on like the never ending story

Grant i guess we will disagree on this, people die in the sun, rain and snow i would not wish this on anyone, but blaming councils is not the answer.

It snows it gets cold, water freezes, you drive to the conditions. If 95% of the road had been gritted and the gritter ran out and someone had an accident on the last 5% what then

Actually alot of salt for roads is mined - ireland is a massive producer, so the saline levels increase, perhaps the melting of the ice caps with dilute.

Didn't you get the memo "Where there's blame there's a claim"... It's this king of bullshit advertising that got us to this point and the fact the courts pander to it doesn't help. What we need is a for a judge to say

I could not agree more, and the worst thing hospitals actually allow these companies to place the information on the counter in the A & E when you book in

In Canada, it's the law that you must have separate summer/winter tyres for your car.

Until the UK Government bring similar law into force, I'll continue my tirade against the Council

All it takes is one tit in their 4x4 thinking their car can handle any conditions, driving far too fast for the conditions, then bang.

On a similar subject, I commend Edinburgh City Council. Good job.
