my first v3 site - the company went bust 2 years ago for reasons unrelated to the website

my first v4 site is still trading on the net, i just looked at their site, it has exactly the same design i gave them in 2000 even down to still having a few comments in the source that i put there. I think its now v6 as it offers payment by paypal.

another v4 site i did now uses a php cart

i'd need to look at my invoicing for 2000 to remember other sites i did

Does that include scrolling text and animated GIF's which were standard way back then?

funny you should say that, yes there is an animated gif, pointing to a shopping directory that no longer exsists and several "New" icons that have bee nthere since 2000.

Comic Sans MS---I still see this in use---scary or what? Anybody remember the "marquee" text scrolling in FrontPage? Not to mention the "Blink" tag.

this was my 1st V5 site, soon became v6 with some custom written discount scripts which cost more than actinic did http://web.archive.org/web/200312251...asupply.co.uk/

Actually, come to that, I wonder if there are any V3 sites out there still!!?
Bit disappointed you don't remember shopping on my v3 site back in... ooh probably 9 years ago...and then later asking about my software for BB.

I'd ummed and ahhed about buying Actinic as a) I knew nothing about the internet and didn't even have my own computer when I first started looking nor much money (so bought Actinic with my webhosting on monthly direct debit so I could still afford the computer on credit card - though my Dad treated me in the end) and b) I didn't have a clue whether to buy Actinic or Shop Assistant or whatever else was about BUT Chris & co kept getting mentions in the internet magazines (there was a business-y one that I quite liked, folded a few years later), and I figured a company that was prepared to market themselves by getting editorial coverage was likely to still be around in a few years time.

Have upgraded along the way under my Cover subscription, with Jo at Pinbrook doing a sterling job of a revamp into V5 I think it was in 2002 complete with subtle twinkly stars on the logo which I love, and then rejigging it again for v8.

Twinkle is getting a total redesign in v9 for our 10 year anniversary this summer. New revamp of the logo too (but will still twinkle), Chris Dicken at Random River is working on it....

I think my pet hate forever has always been entering offline orders. Can never remember the product code and the search is too slow so always resort to remembering where in the list said product is and scrolling fast, or entering the order online. Am so pleased v9 will relieve me of this agony. Can't wait.

It's a thing of beauty Pete, as if you got rid of it, no taste.

New avatar in memory of it?

The marquee was a thing of beauty in its time, strange how things move on. A site from 5-6 years ago is so different nowadays. I love these nostalgic look backs, remind you where you come from and how you've progressed, my first site was appalling but I thought it was mint at the time.

My first ever actinic build has come back to me for a redesign this month, it will be quite strange and sentimental revisiting that site again. It will be a bit like going back to the girl you first lost your virginity to and showing her you can do it better now.

I like the confidence Lee. Does that reflect your excellent performance these days or how poor you were back then?
