    Automatic start-up of Windows XP

    Hi

I would like to get all the computers in my office to switch-on and start-up at a scheduled time each morning.

I have managed to get my Vista laptop to do this from stand-by (going to try from off tonight but I suspect this won't work but from standby is fine).

However is this possible with Windows XP. I have tried Google searches and can't find anything too useful but I am sure this must be possible??!?!

There is a utility called 'wake up on standby' http://www.dennisbabkin.com/php/download.php?what=WOSB that looks like it should do it.

Another option, if you can get one PC to wake up, is to use Wake On Lan to wake up the others. See http://winhlp.com/node/57

I can't really see much benefits if you will have to leave them on standby and you may still have to logon again. You can change the power settings to stop the hard drives after a period and just turn the monitors off at night if you want to save power.

Otherwise first one in in the morning switches them on before they make the tea.

Paul, what OS are your machines using? This is relatively easy to set up on a XP Pro standalone machine or a Server 2003 network - haven't yet landed base with Server 2008 so couldn't help there.

On some machines there may be a scheduled startup setting in the BIOS.
